How-to | Use trial seats#
Trial seats are temporary user licenses that allow space admins to invite additional users to an instance for the purpose of testing Dataiku.
At the end of the trial period, the space admin must decide whether or not to convert the user to a permanent seat.
Enable the trial seat option#
This feature is not available by default. If interested, the space admin should contact the account team.
Configure the trial seat experience#
Once trial seats have been enabled on an instance, the space admin needs to configure the user experience for trial seats.
In the Launchpad, navigate to the Users, Profiles & Groups panel.
Go to the tab called Trial seats.
In the Trial seats tab, you can:
Access the trial seat quota to see how many credits are being used and how many remain unassigned.
Write a message that will be displayed to users when they first connect to the instance.
Define how the trial seat user experience will start.
Decide what will happen to a user when the trial period expires.
Starting a trial#
The space admin has three options for users starting a trial seat:

Default: The Launchpad displays a message provided by the space admin. A space admin would have to assign the user a trial seat. This option is meant for those who want to have a request process outside of Dataiku. |
Ending a trial#
The space admin has two options for the ending of a trial seat:
Users will be converted to permanent profiles and retain access to the instance.
Default: Users will be switched back to a guest profile and will not be able to access the instance until a new seat is assigned.
Invite users to take trial seats#
Once the space admin has defined the trial experience, they can proceed to invite users. Similar to adding other users, the space admin can invite trial users through two paths:

Note
A space admin can also grant a trial seat to users in their space in the user dashboard.
Additional questions#
What profiles can I access?#
All profiles can be accessible for trial seats; it depends on what trial seats have been requested with your account team.
How much time is left in my trial?#
Trial seat users can see how much time they have left in the top bar of Dataiku. Administrators can see all trial seat users with their profiles and how much time they have left in the Users, Profiles & Groups panel.
Do I have to end the trial seat to have a permanent seat?#
The space admin can revoke the trial or grant a permanent seat to a user at any moment. To do so, go to the Users, Profiles & Groups panel, and click on the menu action next to the user that needs to be updated.
How many unused trial seats remain on the space?#
The quota of trial seats is accessible in the Trial seats tab in the Users, Profiles & Groups panel.
Does work done by trial seat users remain after the trial ends?#
All project work done by trial seat users remains after their trial period ends.
